GKO Receives First Individual Donation!

Thank You Sarah (Frey) Rose and Frey Foundation!

Over the 2011 holiday, Getting Kids Outdoors was honored to receive a donation from Ms. Sarah (Frey) Rose, trustee of the Frey Foundation.  These funds are to be used to support GKO and its efforts to do what it does best – get kids outdoors!

On behalf of Getting Kids Outdoors’ volunteers and partners, we would like to thank Ms. Rose and the Frey Foundation for these funds.  We are so thankful to have been chosen for this generous and thoughtful donation!  Though no specific plans have been decided for these funds yet, lots of ideas are already brewing!  GKO has several projects currently on the table, thanks to the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation & the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).  Some of these projects include launching a soon to be newly revised Passport to Adventure for 2012, a spring kick-off event at Pond Hill Farm to introduce our new Passport, updating & printing our main information card, and much more!

New ideas, collaborations, events, and opportunities for GKO and its partners to get children and families outdoors are always culminating.  Special donations like Ms. Rose’s are beneficial in helping GKO collaborate with local groups, state coalitions and the national Children & Nature movement to provide unique (and free or low cost) outdoor opportunities for children across northern Michigan.    GKO is also working collaboratively with partners to provide local teachers, caregivers and parents with tips and ideas on how to help children interact with nature.  A more sohpisticated environmental education training program for  adults, and a  Junior Naturalist in Training workshop are currently in the planning stages.  Funds like Ms. Rose’s will help make these ideas become a reality.

Many thanks to you, Ms. Sarah (Frey) Rose, for believing in GKO!
